• SDI (Scuba Diving International) allows more flexibility, meaning that as long as all required skills are covered, the instructor can decide when and how to teach them.

In terms of e-learning, PADI has a more streamlined digital platform compared to SDI, making it easier for students to complete theory lessons online. Additionally, PADI offers a wider variety of specialty courses, giving divers more opportunities to expand their skills.

Diver Perspective: PADI vs. SDI

From a diver’s perspective, the biggest difference is the training philosophy after the Open Water Diver level.

• PADI encourages divers to build experience by taking more courses. For example, after completing the Open Water Diver course, you can immediately enroll in the Advanced Open Water Diver course without requiring additional dives for experience.
• SDI, on the other hand, promotes gaining real-world diving experience before advancing to the next level. This means divers are encouraged to log more dives before enrolling in advanced courses.
